計測の仕組み

この USB-C 拡張ケーブルに内蔵された電流チェッカーにはデータ透過性があり、実際に送受信される USB データや、USB-C DP 代替モード対応の外部モニタ接続などに干渉することがありません。このケーブルを使うと、USB-C ドッキングステーション、充電器（チャージャー）、USB-C ケーブル、その他のアクセサリーを接続するためにシステム構成内に介在させ、接続距離を延長することができます。このときに内蔵された電流チェッカーは、電源（VBUS）とグラウンドにのみ接続して電流値を測定する仕組みでデータラインには干渉せず、ケーブルとしての通常動作には影響を及ぼすことはありません。

当 Plugable USB-C 延長ケーブルは双方向性ですが、オス側（電流チェッカー表示がついていない側のコネクタ）を充電器などに接続し、メス側（電流チェッカー表示がついている側）を別の USB-C ケーブルに接続して使用するのが一般的な使い方です。

他の一般的な使用例として、デスクトップ PC や、ノート PC に接続したドッキングステーションの背面にある手の届きにくいポートへのアクセスを容易にするために、この延長ケーブルを使用することが考えられます。 USB-C 接続ケーブルをより便利な場所に延長し、さらに内蔵の電流チェッカーによる電流値を簡単にチェックすることができます。

いずれにしても、入力と出力のどちら側をどう接続して使用するかは自由に決定できます。USB-C 機器間で電流が流れている限り、その間に接続された当ケーブルの電流チェッカーにある OLED が点灯し、おおよその電力がワット数で表示されます。

重要な注意点

この USB-C 電流チェッカー内蔵延長ケーブル（USBC-METER3-1M）は、専門的なテスト機器ではありません。USB-C 機器間の電流をワット数で素早く簡単に確認できるように設計された、一般ユーザー用の簡易チェッカーです。
このケーブルは、PC に搭載された Thunderbolt 3/4 または USB4 ポートに接続して一般的な USB-C デバイスを接続する際に、延長ケーブルとして使用できます。しかし、もしも接続する先の機器が Thunderbolt 3、4、または USB4 デバイス（周辺機器）（例：Thunderbolt 3対応 eGPU、Thunderbolt 4 ドッキングステーション、Thunderbolt 4 外付け SSD など）の場合には、使用することができません。このケーブル自体は 10Gbps までのデータ転送にのみ対応しており、Thunderbolt 3、4、USB4 のデータ信号送受信には対応していないためです。
通常、ケーブル内蔵の電流チェッカーは両端に USB-C 機器（PC システム、充電器、USB-C アクセサリーなど）が接続されていないとオンになりません。このケーブルのどちらか片方にのみ機器が接続された状態で表示がオンになる場合、接続されたデバイスは PD 充電器規格の技術仕様に違反していると考えられます。このような状態は「VBUS ホット」と呼ばれます。

What is USB-C Power Delivery R3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR)?

The new USB Power Delivery specifications allow for the delivery of up to 240W via a USB Type-C cable (an increase from the previous 100W max). The previous Power Delivery range has been relabeled as Standard Power Range (SPR), and the new specifications (between 100W and 240W), have been labeled as Extended Power Range (EPR).

Can I connect this product to a computer's Thunderbolt/Thunderbolt 2 port?

Many users assume that USB-C devices can work with older Thunderbolt 2 Macs if they use a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, such as the one made by Apple. However, this is not the case. These adapters are specifically designed to support Thunderbolt devices only - not standard USB-C peripherals.

While Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C share the same connector type, they use different underlying data protocols. Non-Thunderbolt USB-C devices, rely on USB standards for data and power. The Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter does not carry USB signals; it only passes Thunderbolt data. Because of this, plugging a USB-C device into a Thunderbolt 2 Mac using this adapter will not work - the computer will not detect or communicate with the device.

If you need to connect peripherals to a Thunderbolt 2 system, we recommend using a USB-A dock or hub (if available on your system). This ensures compatibility without relying on unsupported adapter chains.

In short, even though the connectors may fit, USB-C devices are not compatible with Thunderbolt 2 Macs via Thunderbolt adapters - only Thunderbolt devices will work in that setup.
