DisplayLink® Dock or Display Adapter

Most DisplayLink-based docking stations and graphics adapters will connect to a PC using a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port, though some do connect with USB-C. These adapters require DisplayLink software to be installed for Windows and macOS in order to work. DisplayLink display devices usually have the DisplayLink logo printed on it, depicted below. Additionally, this logo can generally also be found on the product packaging.

Silicon Motion Dock or Graphics Adapter

Our Silicon Motion based USB graphics adapters and docking stations connect to a laptop using a USB 3.0 or USB-C connection. These adapters require the Silicon Motion application to be installed for Windows and macOS in order to work. The current products we offer that use Silicon Motion technology are:

Thunderbolt™ Dock or Display Adapter

Thunderbolt™ 3 devices will connect over a specially-marked USB-C port or cable, featuring the Thunderbolt™ symbol next to the port.

Note: Some devices can connect as either standard USB-C or Thunderbolt™. Thunderbolt™ devices do not require DisplayLink software.

Non-DisplayLink USB-C Docks and Graphics Adapters

In most cases, non-DisplayLink USB-C docks will connect to the host using a USB-C cable that does not have the Thunderbolt™ logo on the cable ends. With the exception of dual-mode Thunderbolt™ and USB-C docks.

Typically, non-DisplayLink USB-C docks do not require additional software installation. However, you may need to install a driver for the Ethernet port, or for another specific function on the dock.
