Plugable Products Tested and Approved for the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (ARM)

Microsoft has launched its latest line of Surface products, which includes the Surface Laptop 7 and the Surface Pro 10. The Surface Laptop 7 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X ARM chip, a CPU architecture commonly used for mobile devices such as cell phones, and it is one of the first Microsoft Surface USB4 hosts. USB4 hosts provide a vast array of connectivity and external display connectivity. These new high-powered ARM chips aim to compete directly with Apple M1 / M2 / M3 and soon-to-be-released M4 silicon’s performance battery life and look to support up to four external 4K@60Hz displays via USB4 connectivity. Previous Microsoft ARM laptops using Windows RT suffered from software and emulation restrictions, meaning users were stuck using software from the Microsoft store. This new version of Windows 11 for ARM aims to eliminate those limitations. In addition to those major overall improvements, Microsoft also focused on improving device compatibility. While some driver installation may still be required, in most cases, there will be a built-in driver, or Windows will automatically download the driver, resulting in a seamless experience.

Due to the robust new built-in inbox driver compatibility included in Windows 11 for ARM, we did not run into any connectivity issues with our products. It is worth noting that for our DisplayLink and Silicon Motion, we recommend manually installing those drivers, which you can download at Plugable.com/Drivers.
