Intel Evo is a certification and design standard created for Intel-based computers, introduced with Intel’s 11th Generation Core processors, up to current Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processor-based notebooks. An Intel Evo notebook offers the best user experience, including Intel Iris Xe or Arc graphics, Wi-Fi 6+, and Thunderbolt 4 or 5. Beyond Intel’s Thunderbolt certification programs, our Engineered for Evo products have been designed and tested with Intel Evo systems in mind; that isn’t to say these products will only work with Intel systems, just that they have an additional level of assurance.
What Sets Intel Evo Laptops Apart
Intel Evo certification is for high-end, ultra-thin, and light notebook computers featuring Intel processors and technology. This certification is given to devices with ensured top-tier performance, all-day battery life, and fast charging.
Another priority is to ensure a performance advantage over previous generations; Intel Evo requires a system to be more than 40% more responsive on average than a 2-year-old premium laptop, both on battery. Ensuring a new computer will outperform a system it is replacing.

Intel Evo laptops are still compatible with a wide array of graphics technologies for expanding the system’s display capability from DisplayLink USB Graphics, USB Type-C with DisplayPort MST (Multi-Stream Transport), and USB4/Thunderbolt DisplayPort Tunneling, or a combination of these features to support one, two.... or more external displays.

Can I use an Engineered for EVO accessory with my AMD-based system, or Apple MacBooks?
While the Engineered for Evo program does not test with AMD and Mac systems, we generally expect compatibility here as well, with some nuance. Modern AMD processors support USB4, as do M-series MacBooks, enabling most Engineered for Intel Evo devices; however, unlike Intel Evo notebooks, these systems may have some reduced capabilities.
Generally, AMD 7000 series and newer systems can support two external displays on a single USB4 port, but until 2025 this wasn’t a requirement for Windows, and earlier systems may only support a single external display or have limited display resolution support.
M1-M2 base-model MacBook Pro and Air systems are limited to supporting a single external display; M3 base-model systems can enable a second display with the notebook lid closed, but not when open. Systems with M1-M3 Pro/Max and M4 and newer processors can support up to two external displays from a single USB4 port, better supporting Engineered for Evo Thunderbolt docking stations.
